KIDS CAN BE ENTREPRENEURS

Laura and Josie Cannone are actual sisters who became known as The GG Sisters after they co-founded The Glama Gal Kids Spa in 2006. They started their entrepreneurial journey out of their parent’s basement, with an $80 investment in some children’s bathrobes, nail polish, and bath bombs. Today Glama Gal Kids Spa is a well-known brand, with multiple franchised and virtual locations across Ontario.

With their business growing and thriving, in 2015 these two sisters saw a need to share the real behind scenes look at the life of franchisors, entrepreneurs, and moms. Laura and Josie created The GG Sisters social media channels, showing followers glimpses of their daily family and entrepreneur life.

In 2019 Laura & Josie took all of their entrepreneurial knowledge, customer service acumen, and social media savviness, and launched The GG Media Group, and GG YOU-niversity Community, which is a multifaceted social media company.

The GG Sisters have been featured by national news outlets such as the National Post, Toronto Star, Global Morning Show, Breakfast Television Toronto, and CP24. Diversity, Inclusion & The Next Generation

We welcome Youth Activist & Making Change Ambassadors, Keliah Casey & Shondra Durrant who will join us to speak about diversity, inclusion & the next generation!

Keliah Casey (She/Her), is an ambitious activist in the making, who has a passion for the success of her community. She strives to use her talents in a way that will help to make a difference, be an inspiration, and help pave the way for generations to come.

As the youngest child, she has grown up seeing the struggles her siblings before her have faced and is dedicated to making positive change within the cycle that has caused her community to be dormant in relation to the fight for racial equality. She has been recognized in her school community as someone who is devoted to bringing awareness, teaching, and exposing the bonds of racism. Volunteering with Making Change is another way she gives back to her community. As a loyal activist, she is always trying to find new opportunities to expand her knowledge as well as educate and connect with others who are as passionate about making change as she is.
Shondra Durrant (She/her) is a young activist, who strives to better her community in terms of ending racial inequality, and the intersectionality it can hold. With a creative and outgoing approach, she is always trying to further educate herself and her peers. She has been recognized throughout her school and her community as not only a positive influencer but a change-maker.

With two younger siblings, Shondra strives to make her community a safer and more inclusive place for them as they grow up. She has been recognized for her art from the MacLaren Art Centre, involving the Youth Social Media Project: Change, in early June of 2020. Furthermore, she is known around her school for being a dedicated community builder, sharing her education, passion, and irrepressibility with her peers in a positive manner.

As a dedicated activist, she is always trying to make connections with others who harbor the passion to make real change. Thus leading her to become a Youth Ambassador and future Board Director with Making Change.

GROWING CONFIDENCE FOR GIRLS

Philanthropist, body image advocate, actress, model, and now small business owner, Taylor Hui has always struggled to pinpoint exactly her career title. Throughout her most recent professional and passion-led projects, Taylor has gained the title as a social entrepreneur.

At the age of 17, Taylor started the BeaYOUtiful Foundation, a Canadian charity that works with young girls across Canada providing self-esteem programs and female empowerment workshops. Available both in-person and online, BeaYOUtiful programs focus on helping young girls build confidence through mentorship and provide a safe space for open dialogue around mental health. With multiple friends suffering from eating disorders, as well as directly experiencing the negative implications of bullying, she knew action was needed to inspire young girls about the importance of self-love.

Further expanding her organization, Taylor created a clothing line called The Roster. Designed with a purpose to inspire women to feel confident in their own skin, proceeds from every sale are donated to BeaYOUtiful. Currently, the brand is carried in over 60 stores nationally.

Taylor has worked in the acting and modeling industry for 7+ years, traveling across Asia and Europe on fashion contracts. She continues to work in both industries in Vancouver while building her foundation and clothing line

LIVE PERFORMANCE & #IMatter Program

Girl Pow-R is an all-girl pop-rock band that was nominated for a JUNO in March 2020. Their debut album “This Is Us” has garnered the group well over 2.2+ million social and Spotify streams across all platforms — including 1.1+ million on TikTok alone. In addition, they’ve also received countless media features in print, web, television and radio, including Tiger Beat, J-14, Girls’ Life, Celeb Secrets, SiriusXM, Breakfast Television, CityTV, CP24 Breakfast, YTV, TVO Kids, eTalk Canada, Fresh 95.3, and more.

The album’s title track “This Is Us” debuted on the iTunes Canada Children’s chart at #2 and #15 in the U.S., all in the midst of a summer featuring back-to-back-(to-back) Canadian and U.S. tour stops to Boston, New York, Philadelphia and Washington, DC to audiences of thousands of young fans at each show!

Having symbolically formed on International Women’s Day 2017, each member has their own social cause. The roster of talented singers, songwriters, multi-instrumentalists and dancers have performed more than 200+ shows in their first three years.

Since starting, the group has won a Family Channel singing competition, as well as nominations for Niagara Music Awards’ ‘Best New Group’ and a Toronto Independent Music Award. Girl Pow-R was hand-picked to re-create the Mysticons theme song. Check them out on YouTube or Spotify.

Girl Pow-R’s sound is rooted in Pop-Rock, with the goal of inspiring others to be their best, through their music and lyrics. Too often, young people are influenced by the thoughts and life experiences of singers and musicians who are in their late teens and their 20’s. It’s time to give young people an alternative to these messages.

YOUTH EMPOWERING YOUTH

This workshop is an exclusive sneak peek at the ‘Youth Empowering Youth’ program presented by Women Empower Network and Chorus Music Academy Inc. The program was inspired by teen mental health advocate Ida-Maria, who struggles with General Anxiety Disorder and wanted to help other young girls who may be facing similar issues.

This session covers body image & how to deal with social media in a positive manner. Teaching body positivity and self-love as of a young age is a must in today’s society. In a world driven by social media and its unrealistic expectations due to filters, photoshop, and media overload, young girls are at an increasing risk of developing lower self-esteem, which can lead to eating disorders and also have other negative impacts. Multi-talented hosts Ida-Maria and Carina are excited to share their tips and inspirational stories on how to overcome these struggles, as well as teach the choreography to their brand-new song ‘You Can’. Carina wrote this powerful anthem for the ‘Youth Empowering Youth’ program to inspire young girls to be themselves. Both girls are so proud to share their love for the music and arts, as well as its positive impact on their overall mental health and well-being.
